My Story
I fell in love with singing at a very young age. Some of my most fond memories as a kid were singing at the top of my lungs in the car with my parents or creating a “one woman show” in my bedroom for my family.
My parents noticed early on that I loved to perform.
The big moment that brought ✨stars✨ to my eyes was my first family trip to New York City where we saw the Broadway production of Mary Poppins. I saw kids performing on stage, which ignited my deep passion for musical theatre performance.
Singing was my favorite area of performance. It was my first love and the thing I enjoyed doing the most. We discovered in my preteen years that I had a natural ability to project, and it was as if all of a sudden I developed a big and powerful voice...
but there was one problem…
I didn’t exactly understand what I was doing…
All too often people would ask me, “How do you sing like that?!” And I would think, “I don’t know, I just do it.”
This is a common problem with singers and happens far too often. Many people have the natural ability to sing but don’t have the resources or information on how to truly understand how to control their instrument–their voice. There are unspoken “mysteries” about singing as students of the voice are given vocal warmups and exercises to “solve” all their singing problems. The issue with that is vocal exercises help with singing vocal exercises, not necessarily with singing songs, so vocalists wonder how to apply the vocal exercises to the songs they are singing. This inhibits a singer’s progress towards their goals.
Back then for me, because I didn’t have the knowledge and tools to truly understand my instrument, I fell into frustrating yet common roadblocks such as not being able to sing as high as I wanted and as a result being put in the box of being a Mezzo-soprano.
I would work tirelessly for hours in private trying to hit the high notes from all of the vocalists I admired, and strained to hit them. I felt so accomplished in the moments when I did hit the notes, but sometimes that’s all they were… just moments.
I would hope and pray that by chance, I would be able to hit the notes this time. This would cause anxiety when performing because wondering if you are going to be able to sing certain parts of songs instead of knowing that you will is not a way to become a confident singer. I needed to KNOW I would crush it, not just hope.
I tried all kinds of “tricks” while I was singing such as squeezing my eyes shut, tensing the muscles in my face or body, or even bending over so that in my mind, I would be ensured to hit the notes I wanted.
Even though struggles were there, I didn't give up. I was able to achieve many of my goals, even of becoming a powerhouse singer, but I still felt like something was missing and that I wasn’t living up to my full potential. I needed something that would help me reach my ultimate singing dreams.
Then in 2018, it all fell into place. I took the leap of faith and tried Michael Maresca’s One Voice Method of singing...
Then everything changed in the best way possible.
🎉
This revolutionary program gave me a new language of how to understand what was going on physically when I sang and how I could control it to achieve the sounds I wanted. Reaching the singing success I had always imagined was finally available to me. The best part about it was that it simplified singing in a way that was easily comprehensible.
I felt a sense of freedom to take on whatever vocal goals I had head on with a newfound confidence in my singing. I gained a completely new understanding of how the voice works, how to effectively practice on my own, and how be a self-sufficient and CONSISTENT singer.
So I made it my mission to educate and equip aspiring singers with the understanding of how to control their own voices as an instrument, how to take the “mystery” out of singing, and regain newfound confidence to achieve peace of mind and ultimately vocal freedom.
If you take that leap of faith--and sign up for private coaching with me, together, we can make that happen for you too!
